On 24 May, the International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament is celebrated globally. On this day, the current and historic efforts of women in peacebuilding and disarmament are commemorated. In the early 1980s, a group of pacifists feminists united to protest the stockpiling of nuclear weapons and arms on 24 May and established the International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament. This day serves as a reminder of the distressing impacts of weapons on lives and livelihoods and to call for an end to militarism.
