Mozambique’s local elections. A virtual dialogue on post-election developments – Oct 19, 2023

Mozambique held their local elections on October 11 in 65 municipalities. These elections were held in the context of an ongoing violent insurgency in the north of the country, issues with the National Election Commission (CNE), shrinking democratic space, and strikes in the public sector, amongst other issues. Accusations of intimidation of the opposition and irregularities in the voting process amongst other concerning issues marred the lead-up to the election.

This public dialogue provided a platform for stakeholders to engage in discussions on these issues, exploring ways to foster a greater understanding of the situation in Mozambique and their implications for the region.
