Norwegian People’s Aid Partner’s Meeting
SALO attended the Norwegian People’s Aid Partner’s meeting in Muldersdrift from 29-30 November which was co-hosted by the Socio-Economic Rights Institute and Mining Affected Communities United in Action. We heard from Wastepickers/Reclaimers about their daily lives and struggles including how they are organised and how their work impacts climate and the environment. The meeting also covered the current context around environmental protection and climate change in South Africa and what some of the environmental and climate-related issues are today that could drive organising at the grassroots level. Lastly, a mining-affected community in the Westrand was visited.
