SALO Workshop in Johannesburg: A Review of South Africa’s Foreign Policy Approach to the Russia-Ukraine War and Related Issues – 19 Dec 2023

This workshop sought to provide an analysis of South Africa-Ukraine/Russia relations, potential entry points to conflict resolution, and other relevant initiatives to bring about an end to the conflict.

The workshop’s objective was to build consensus on Southern Africa’s approach to the Russia-Ukraine War and bring a common understanding of South Africa’s approach to the conflict while prioritising human rights and international law. Furthermore, we seek to facilitate conversation on the best win-win approaches to resolving the conflict. In doing so, we can interrogate other comparative issues of conflict that stand the potential of generating further international instability.
