Sudan’s Omar al-Bashir ‘to step down in 2020’

Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir has told the BBC he will step down in 2020, when his current mandate ends. Mr Bashir also denied allegations of abuses perpetrated by the Sudanese forces in renewed violence against black African villages who took up arms in the country’s western Darfur region.

The president has been indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on counts of genocide and war crimes.

ICC supporters urge Serbia to strip Sudan’s Bashir of presidential medal

The Coalition for the International Criminal Court (ICC) called on the Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic to reconsider his decision to give a medal to his Sudanese counterpart Omer al-Bashir who is wanted for war crimes in Darfur region since 2009.

In a letter released on Tuesday the CICC, which compromises some 2,500 civil society groups from around the world, disclosed that last February Nikolic decorated Bashir with the Medal of the Republic of Serbia.
