Virtual Public Policy Dialogue on Zimbabwe Ahead of the ANC Policy Conference.-27 July 2022

With the termination of the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) last year and the looming end-of-year deadline for its enforcement, there is growing concern about the hundreds of thousands of people affected, directly or as family members. The new amendments to the national labour and migration policy, along with the deployment of new armed border guards at Beitbridge, create greater concerns both domestically and internationally about South Africa’s handling of immigrants. The ANC Policy Discussion documents do not adequately address the above-mentioned issues nor the underlying crisis in Zimbabwe which is driving migration. These changes in South Africa’s migration policy present a threat to human security and human rights, as the ANC heads into their Policy Conference that started  on Friday the 29th of July
