Today is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The theme of 2021 is: Victims’ Voices Lead the Way. This theme puts survivors of trafficking and their experiences at the centre of the campaign. Survivors play a crucial role in the fight against human trafficking, especially around its prevention, identification, support for victims, and their rehabilitation. Victims often experience ignorance on the issue from those they seek help from, face stigmatization, re-victimisation, and punishment for crimes they were forced to commit. This campaign aims to shed light on these issues and the complexity of the crime of human trafficking.
