Watch here:

This dialogue centred on critical issues affecting Zimbabwe, with specific attention to:

  • The Torture and Abduction of Trade Union Leader and Activists: We will address the recent disturbing reports of torture and abduction of trade union leaders and other civil society activists in Zimbabwe. COSATU, SATUCC, and other groups have publicly supported the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) in calling for an end to these human rights violations.
  • South Africa’s Foreign Policy and Engagement: Discuss the adequacy of South Africa’s foreign policy in addressing the crisis in Zimbabwe, considering the ANC’s rejection of calls to relocate the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit from Harare, scheduled for August 17th.
  • Role of SADC: Examine the upcoming SADC Summit and explore SADC’s role and limitations in relation to handling the escalating crisis in Zimbabwe.
  • Strategic Approaches by South Africa: Deliberate on how South Africa and the regional community can advance more effective responses to the current crisis in Zimbabwe. This includes exploring potential new approaches under the Government of National Unity (GNU) and clarifying the South African government’s stance on these issues.
