The Sudanese and South African governments as well as the United Nations (UN) strongly denied a report alleging that Khartoum held its peacekeepers in Darfur ‘hostages’ while they ascertain that president Omer Hassan al-Bashir has arrived safely from the African Union (AU) summit in Johannesburg.

Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF) said its troops repulsed an attack by unnamed rebel group against its positions in Silai’a area, 64km north of West Darfur state capital of El-Ginaina.

Rebel group says Sudan “failed” to protect Eritrean refugees
An Eritrean opposition group on Sunday accused the Sudanese government of failing to provide enough protection to Eritrean refugees who are subjected to abductions by criminal gangs from in and around Shagarab refugee camp in Eastern Sudan.
